Guide to moving pets

The Pets Travel Scheme (PETS) allows pets from certain other countries, vaccinated against rabies and meeting other strict rules, to travel freely to and from the UK and other EEA countreis. They can also, if having taken their pets to certain non-EEA countries, bring them back into the UK without the need for quarantine.

Animals travelling from qualifying Long Haul countries must enter the UK by air on an Approved Route, and on arrival will be left in quarantine for two to three days.

If the animal is coming to the UK from other countries will have to be quarantined for six months in an approved kennel or cattery. Apply for an import licence several weeks before the date of importation. Full details are available from:
