Moving overseas the hassle-free way
Moving overseas and worrying that handling the practicalities will prove stressful?
Removals expert Cadogan Tate recommends the following tips for a less-manic move:
- When choosing a removals company, first of all check out the British Association of Removers’ (BAR) website at www.bar.co.uk
- Is it a member of the BAR? (Only BAR Overseas Group members are qualified to carry out international moves)
- Will the company send an estimator to view your effects, free of charge and without obligation? Every company should be able to do this and this will assist the move process as the estimator will instantly detect items that will require special attention
- Is it a member of the Fédération Internationale des Déménageurs Internationaux (FIDI) – this is the largest global alliance of independent, quality international-removal companies
- If you need to put precious items into storage, don’t forget to check out the security precautions the removals firm is taking, i.e. check if they have modern, alarmed storage facilities
- Has the company been in business for more than 10 years? Ten years is a good measure, as it takes this amount of time to foster and develop relationships with overseas agents
- Does the company offer a dedicated project manager to oversee your move? We recommend that any removals company you use provides a service whereby every aspect of your move is managed by a single committed member of staff.
