The summit focused on the new trends in emerging markets human resources, unconventional ways of managing a diverse workforce, and recent developments in the continually evolving role of a global HR professional were discussed.

This talk by Bjarte Bogsnes, vice-president of performance management development at Statoil, explained the innovative steps that the Norwegian oil and gas giant had taken to become more dynamic.

Mr Bogsnes claimed that despite Statoil ranking 67th for size on the Fortune 500, it was first for social responsibility and seventh for innovation. This year, the company was also ranked the most transparent corporation in the world by Transparency International.

Dr_Kelan.jpgRe:locate acted as media partner for the 2012 Emerging Markets HR Summit in London which ran from the 5th to the 7th December. The ways in which female employees contribute to an organisation was a key issue discussed at the summit.

Dr Elizabeth Kelan, senior lecturer at King’s College London, addressed the summit on the need to value gender differences and assess what women have to offer to an organisation.

Dr Kelan focused on 'millennial women' as leaders who, according to her, are between 20 and 35 on average. They are confident, yet anxious, and value job security, financial compensation and leisure time.

On the final day, the summit hosted Gyan Nagpal, CEO and principal of PeopleLENS Global Associates and author of Talent Economics, who outlined the challenges facing HR in Asia.

Mr Nagpal believes that the Asian context is useful for any emerging market.

Duck.jpgRe:locate acted as media partner for the 2012 Emerging Markets HR Summit in London which ran from the 5th to the 7th December. One of the main topics of the summit was unconventional ways of managing a diverse workforce. 

On the second day of the summit, David Stephenson, ex-head of learning and development for Telefonica O2 UK & Ireland, remarked that "we need some ducks in our organisation”.

Mr Stephenson reached this conclusion when assessing the type of employee his company needs. He visualised a voyage which his company was embarking on, to represent their business challenges in the future.

The summit began with opening remarks from the chairman Martin Kirke, the HR delivery director of Transport for London.

Mr Kirke addressed the increasing need to manage cross-border teams in business and in HR, and the difficulties which this presents.
