Pune: A rough guide

Pune is India’s eight largest city and home to 4 million people. It has the highest per capita income in India, and the least income disparity between the rich and poor. Pune is also one of India’s fastest growing cities and has attracted many IT and software companies. Renowned for its esteemed colleges and educational establishments, Pune has witnessed a sizeable investment in the software and automobile industries, which has resulted in an influx of skilled labour from across the country. Although currently only one per cent of assignees to India are based here, this figure is tipped to grow in the coming years. Several suburbs are now completely cosmopolitan and real-estate prices have boomed since 2003. Pune is about 100 miles away from Mumbai, which is a 3-hour drive on the spectacular Mumbai-Pune expressway.

Pune experiences three distinct seasons:

Summer: March-May (25°c-39°c)

Monsoon: June-September (20°c-28°c)

Winter: October-February (10°c-29°c)
