Think Relocate Awards Think Global People Awards

10. School providing outstanding relocation support

As employees with children become more reluctant to take up a relocation move or international assignment, it is increasingly important for schools to support relocating pupils transitioning to a new school and location, and also their parents. A good relocation experience for families is vital to avoid international assignment or relocation failure. A successful, timely and stress-free relocation supports talent retention and promotes employer brand for best practice organisations.

This award is open to state, independent and international schools from any country. The school should demonstrate how it provides outstanding assistance to relocating pupils and their families, as well as to international students (probably boarders) electing to study outside of their native country. The award is open to schools that support relocating families on the move, locally, regionally or globally.

Examples of flexibility around admissions, an understanding of the employer’s perspective and case studies regarding unusual requirements may be provided to demonstrate the school’s understanding of relocation issues.

Schools entering are likely to offer some of the following: language/native language tuition, cross-cultural support and access to relocation resources, or have strong connections with relocation professionals, have an active parent/teacher body offering a range of support, resources and social events for pupils and families.

Schools entering this category should be able to demonstrate an ethos of global mindedness and the value of cross-cultural awareness, even if the percentage of relocating pupils is small. You may, for example, explain how the school community welcomes new arrivals and prepares pupils to say goodbye, adding value to their learning and social experience for however long they attend.

Holiday clubs and learning or activity camps, out-of-term language or specialist subject coaching all help to support relocating families and smooth the transition to a new school and location. Such initiatives might be reported. Initiatives with relocation agents or education consultants can be described. Examples of settling-in support, relocation resources, practical help with location orientation, career/job finding support for the accompanying partner and access to expatriate or family support groups can all be cited.

Entrants must:

  • Highlight how your entry is inspirational and why you should win this award category
  • Explain how an exceptional quality and personalised mobility experience is provided and to whom it applies
  • Demonstrate a responsive, resource-efficient and cost-effective service, showing how value is added to the mobility experience
  • Show how you manage your own people so that they demonstrate commitment, engagement and passion in service delivery

The judges will be looking for proof of consistently high standards and excellent service – for example, parent/employer testimonials, feedback forms and/or survey results.

Subject to sufficient breadth of entries, we will subdivide this category to reward different types and size of school.
