The driven cohort achieve outstanding results and have gone on to attend renowned higher education institutions around the world, including: University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, London School of Economics and Political Science, University College London, King’s College London, Loughborough University, Leiden University, UCLA, The Place, Italia Conti, International University of Japan, and many more. Many students from the College’s Performance School go on to join professional companies, with a number starring in the West End. Students from the sports scholarship programme often go on to study coaching and management at university, or play semi-professionally for local teams.

For the fifth year in a row the pass rate for the IB Diploma Programme (DP) at Impington International College has surpassed 95%, exceeding the global pass rate of 80%. Alongside the IB, outcomes for the BTEC courses are just as impressive, with 100% of students passing, and 50% achieving a distinction or distinction*.

Every individual at Impington International College is known. Students enjoy small tutor groups of students aged 16 – 18 years-old and tutors are the first port of call for all pastoral issues, offering guidance and support throughout the two years. The small class sizes ensure high contact time with teachers so that individual needs are met and the close-knit environment allows students to flourish, both with their studies and socially.

Impington International College bases its teaching on the IB’s mission statement and ethos, aiming to develop “inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world”. Not only do students gain a valuable breadth of skills through either the DP or the IB Career-related Programme (CP) but IB higher level subjects also provide the same depth of knowledge as A Levels, so students can go on to achieve excellence in whichever path they choose.

Location 

Impington International College is based in close proximity to the historical and compact cosmopolitan city of Cambridge, renowned for its world-class university, fantastic social scene, shopping and local restaurants. Within this unique and beautiful city stands outstanding architecture old and new together with an abundance of green open spaces as well as the picturesque Backs entwining the city centre. Home to a variety of international communities, Cambridge also has a reputation as a centre of excellence for technology and science; so much so, the surrounding region has been named the Silicon Fen, housing a large cluster of high-tech businesses focusing on software, electronics and biotechnology. Due to this, students will be able to explore the workplace and further opportunities that will be right on their doorstep.

There are fantastic transport links and cycle paths to the city centre, with buses departing from directly outside of the College every 20 minutes. Located only 50 miles north of London, Cambridge is well served by road and rail links, and is within easy distance of the major London airports, with Stansted 29 miles south of the city.

Facilities 

Impington International College is based on a beautiful site, with a large listed building of great architectural significance, and many more modern buildings, all of which are purpose built to provide excellent facilities for learning. There are a number of technology studios, computer suites and Art spaces, including a photography studio and media suite, at the College. Science is housed in two blocks, dedicated entirely to the subjects. There are 12 fully equipped laboratories, two prep-rooms and a science office split between the blocks.

The Dance, Drama and Music departments have their own specialist provision and resources, including a superbly equipped theatre space, a drama studio and two dance studios with sprung floors, two purpose-built music rooms, the Brackenbury Recital Room and a music recording suite.

There is also a fully-equipped Sports Centre with a gym and swimming pool for use by students. The Sports Centre is also host to a large sports hall, which has facilities for badminton, five-a-side football and basketball. Located in the Impington International College grounds are five outdoor tennis courts, four outdoor netball courts, an outdoor grass football pitch and a large grass area for sports and events.

Impington International College offers the following programmes to students:

The Diploma Programme 

The DP is the only solely academic programme at Impington International College, which aims to develop in students an excellent breadth and depth of knowledge. The DP allows students to tailor the programme to their own strengths and interests and offers great flexibility while ensuring they keep up vital skills such as Languages and Mathematics.

The DP curriculum is made up of six subject groups, including: Studies in Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Maths and the Arts. During their two years at Impington International College, students will choose three subjects at higher level and three at standard level. The challenging and rewarding programme offers students a global perspective by cultivating international mindedness and developing key skills needed to succeed in further studies such as research, inquiry, independent study and critical analysis.

The Career-related Programme 

The CP is a framework of international education that incorporates the values of the IB into a unique programme engaging students both in academic and career-related education, leading to higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

As part of the CP, students will study one BTEC subject (the career-related study) and undertake a minimum of two other subjects from the DP curriculum alongside the CP core, which consists of four components.

Students who wish to enter the professional world of theatre and performing arts can choose to study at Impington International College’s Performance School, or train alongside their studies through one of the College’s professional sports scholarships. Impington International College also offers a number of Extended BTEC courses, allowing its students to gain a practical approach to learning combined with the important theory. Students can complete a BTEC either as part of the CP, or as a standalone extended BTEC. Impington International College offers the following BTEC options:

  • BTEC Media
  • BTEC Performing Arts
  • BTEC Sports
  • BTEC Health and Social Care
  • BTEC Business

Impington International College works with a number of companies and institutions throughout all of its BTEC courses, Performance School and sports scholarships, including: Cambridge TV, University of Bedfordshire, Trinity Laban, Norwich City FC, Rob Roy Boat Club and Rugby Union Football Club. This involvement with outside agencies looks at practical experience and developing professional relationships within each vocational area. 

Entrance criteria

To study the DP at Impington International College, the equivalent of at least seven GCSEs with an average of Grade 5 are required, including English Language and Mathematics. For subjects’ students wish to take at higher level they will need at least a Grade 6.

To study the CP at Impington International College, the equivalent of at least five subjects at GCSE Grade 4 or higher, ideally including Mathematics and English Language and preferably with a Grade 5 in your area of specialism, are required. Finally, to study one of the extended BTEC programmes, Impington International College requires an average of the equivalent of a Grade 4 across GCSEs, ideally including Mathematics and English Language.

*All international students must hold equivalent grades

Extra-curricular activities

As well as academic study, all students at Impington International College are given the opportunity to undertake a number of community-based projects and are offered an extraordinary range of extra-curricular opportunities. Through creativity, activity and service (CAS) and service learning, a requirement for all DP and CP students, students will be involved in the Impington iCASprogramme.

The iCAS programme supports students’ personal development and wellbeing, encourages commitment and responsibility, and fosters a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment. The programme also provides an opportunity for learning for pleasure, rather than for examinations and offers an extraordinary range of extra-curricular experiences including: primary teaching, overseas initiatives, charity and volunteer work, sports fixtures, and many more.
