Hong Kong International School (HKIS)  is a leading private co-educational college preparatory school for students from Reception One (pre-kindergarten) to Grade 12. Since 1966, HKIS has provided an American-style education grounded in the Christian faith. We encourage student achievement in an inspiring environment, and our programs reflect the rich multi-cultural and international character of our student body. We are committed to delivering exceptional teaching, and continually evolve our programs and facilities to enhance our student experience. HKIS offers a warm and inclusive learning environment for over 2600 students of 40 nationalities and diverse religious backgrounds.

HKIS has four divisions across two campuses located on the south side of Hong Kong Island: 

• Lower Primary (Pre-K to Grade 2)  
• Upper Primary (Grades 3-5)  
• Middle School (Grades 6-8)  
• High School (Grades 9-12) 

HKIS is a member of the East Asia Regional Council of Schools and is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

HKIS provides educational excellence with a difference, emphasizing compassion and community service across all grades. We offer courses that challenge and inspire students to be lifelong learners and global citizens. Our graduates attend the top universities around the world, with close to 85% attending American institutions. 

Curriculum Highlights

• Mandarin Chinese  is a required course from Pre-K to  Grade 5, and one of three languages students can  pursue from Grades 6-12.

• HKIS has an established music curriculum that includes  strings, choir and band programs.

• HKIS offers a visual arts, design & technology program in  the High School, which includes computer programming,  digital game design, fashion design, graphic design, and theater stagecraft.
• 
Over 25 Advanced Placement subjects are available to  High School students.

Beyond Books

Education outside the classroom is an essential part of student life at HKIS. Local and international school trips lasting up to a week create an opportunity for community building, and allow students to deepen their educational experience through cultural immersion and service learning. HKIS also offers  25 extra-curricular activities, from chess to rock climbing, sports to Scouts. In addition, HKIS has a competitive athletics program with over 50 teams competing in local and international conferences.
