Foreign direct investment into the Russian economy increased 43% in the first three quarters of 2011, reaching $11.7 billion.

Outside Moscow, the major cities are St Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod, to the west, and Novosibirsk and Ekaterinburg, towards the south east.
