Windlesham House School

Windlesham was one of the first prep schools to be set up (1837) and the first to admit girls (1967). Although academic excellence is key we also encourage success in sport, music, drama and arts whilst nurturing a friendly, family orientated atmosphere with wonderful pastoral care. Our children are not confined to a playground, they make dens, climb trees and camp in the woods and are free to choose what they want to do in their break times.

With us children have the time and space to be children, away from the pressures of competition and urban hothousing. Windlesham is set in exceptionally beautiful grounds with magnificent buildings and facilities.

For Headmaster Richard Foster, it’s important that he and wife Rachel are hands-on and they take enormous pride in knowing each and every one of the children very well, and knowing their parents by christian name.

Windlesham is a true boarding prep school with a day contingent. The majority of children are from the UK but we welcome children from overseas and have children from around 15 different countries. Weekends are packed with sport and organised activities.

Great care is taken to communicate with parents and it is very much a partnership with the School. Children and parents communicate via Skype, phone and emails. Families are welcomed at drama and musical events in the Malden Family Theatre, Sunday chapel services and sporting fixtures.

Each pupil joins one of six houses where experienced Houseparents provide the very best pastoral care for children while acting as a crucial communication channel between the parents, the children and their teachers.

With 250 activities to choose from, every child can find an area to excel whether in the arts, sports or academia. An outdoor classroom is used for survival lessons, building shelters and campfire cooking. It even boasts a pizza oven. Grounds are also well-used for sports including the new astro pitch, a 9 hole golf course, hard and grass tennis courts, netball courts, athletics track and sports fields for cricket, football, rugby, and hockey. The walled garden is used for growing a wide range of fruit and vegetables.

At the top end of the school our overriding aim is to ensure that each child achieves the highest grades they can for their Common Entrance or Scholarship exams to some of the best senior schools in the country, as well as ensuring they follow a balanced and enjoyable curriculum.

When the time comes to leave Windlesham children do so as confident, curious, clever and above all, kind people who are ready to make a difference in their world.
