About ISZN

International School Zurich North is an international school for boys and girls aged 3-18, conveniently located in a north eastern suburb of Zurich.

Our provision is built upon a commitment to understanding each child. We aim to deliver authentic and meaningful learning experiences.

One of the key strengths of an ISZN education is our unique and varied curriculum. We combine the benefits of an IB Primary Years Programme, with its focus on enquiry, collaboration and transdisciplinary learning, with preparation for the academic rigour demanded in IGCSE and A-Level.

Small class sizes, highly qualified and experienced teachers, a culture of high expectation and the caring qualities of a small school, are all core aspects of what parents and children can expect from an ISZN education.

Curriculum

Primary School

For students aged 3-11, we offer the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).

The Programme is overseen by the globally renowned International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and is designed to be transdisciplinary in nature; integrating subject areas to give the students a well rounded, engaging and relevant experience. Inquiry based and reflective of shared best teaching practices from around the globe, the programme actively works to instil a lifelong love of learning.

Teaching is delivered in our spacious Primary Campus building, where our flexible learning spaces enable students to reflect on how best they learn as individuals. From our Maker Space where students can pursue innovative solutions, to enjoying a classroom without walls, our aim is to provide as rich a learning experience as possible.

Secondary School

In Middle School (Grades 6-8) students follow our tailormade curriculum which builds on the strengths of the PYP programme while also preparing them for the academically rigorous IGCSE and A-Levels curriculum of Upper School (Grades 9-12).

Combining a culture of high expectations with all the caring qualities and individual attention that only a small school can provide, the environment allows all students to find their passion, whether that be algebra or acting.

The globally recognised and respected A-Level qualification provides a passport to study at leading universities across North America and Europe, including here in Switzerland, with institutions such as the prestigious ETH Zurich being a popular destination for ISZN graduates.

Enrichment & Character Development

We believe that achievement more naturally derives from enjoyment and curiosity than vice versa. Therefore, maintaining the physical and emotional wellbeing of each child is our number one priority. Our Global Be Well day is the most visible manifestation of this commitment but it infuses all aspects of school life.

Academic grades have always been, and probably always will be, important, however, education is so much more than a one dimensional package of examination outcomes. At ISZN we are wholly committed to equipping our pupils with the skills, knowledge and attributes needed to live meaningful lives in a fast-changing global society.

At ISZN we focus on nurturing individual strengths to build characters who can thrive in our fast moving world. Both in and outside of the classroom, an emphasis on open-mindedness, collaboration and a sense of responsibility, along with the development of a well-founded understanding for other people, nations and cultures, students leave ISZN with the strength of character to become successful citizens of the world.

Encouraging open minds

We encourage our students to be open-minded individuals that will easily find their place in an international community.

As an International School, it is a matter of course to foster a global way of thinking amongst all of our students. With more than 25 nations represented within the school, a global mindset is the foundation of our identity.

By teaching in English and offering EAL lessons as well as German and French, we break down language barriers and our international curriculum offers diverse opportunities to pursue worldwide destinations.

Part of the Cognita Family of Schools

Our school is part of Cognita which is an extraordinary family of diverse yet connected schools, spanning eight different countries. We share one common purpose: to create an inspiring world of education that builds self-belief and empowers individuals to succeed. Together, we provide a uniquely global education that goes beyond grades to develop all-round academic excellence – building resilient minds and encouraging positive, international perspectives.

We do this by sharing expertise, insights and best practice across the world – and by collaborating to develop rich learning environments in every school. We equip young people with the confidence and resourcefulness that prepares them to grow, thrive and find their success in a fast-changing world.
