Netherlands

Also known as Holland, the Netherlands is one of the world’s 20 largest economies, with a fast-growing export sector, particularly in agriculture. Other key industries are chemicals, petroleum refining, technology, financial services, food processing and electrical machinery. Read more

Well-known Dutch multinationals include Heineken, Philips, TomTom, Randstad and ING, all of which are headquartered in the country’s capital, Amsterdam, plus Rotterdam-based Unilever. Thanks to the country’s attractive corporate tax rates, thousands of companies of overseas origin, including IKEA and EADS, also have their HQs or a presence in the Netherlands.

Amsterdam is a key Brexit-path location, with a number of organisations, particularly those in the financial sector, considering it as an alternative location for a European base when the UK leaves the EU.

The Hague (Den Haag) is the seat of the Dutch parliament and home to the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, and a number of other leading transnational organisations. It is also the headquarters location of global oil and gas giant Royal Dutch Shell.

Other key locations for international businesses and their employees include Leiden, Eindhoven, Maastricht, Tilburg and Brainport. The Netherlands is known for the quality of life it offers expats as well as Dutch citizens, in areas that include health and well-being, education and childcare.

In this section, we bring you the latest news, articles, tools and resources to help you achieve your business objectives and goals. With contributions from specialists across the global mobility and relocation industry and the latest perspectives from regional conferences, we analyse key trends influencing the relocation and global mobility scene in the Netherlands.
