The school was founded in 1969 and officially opened in 1970. It has a beautiful site of ten hectares, surrounded by woodlands and lakes near the Royal Museum of Central Africa in Tervuren, and is 20 minutes’ drive from central Brussels. The school is a coeducational non-selective day school for students aged 1-18, with 1,350 currently on roll. Currently approximately 34% of the students are British and there are more than 70 other nationalities represented
We are an international learning community and students follow a British-based curriculum adapted to the European context and international student cohort up to age 16 years. Post-16 students have the choice of three pre-university routes: A Levels, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma (French/Dutch bilingual options) and English BTEC vocational courses in Sport, Business, Hospitality and Applied Science. We are the only school in Belgium to offer this choice. Additionally we offer a truly bilingual French/English programme for ages 4-14 years.
The school has outstanding facilities for sports, music and drama and is the only international school in Belgium to have its own swimming pool. Extra-curricular options are extensive.
Our excellent facilities include a state- of-the-art design & technology workshop, networked IT suites and drama studios, as well as nine science laboratories, four art studios and comprehensive modern languages and humanities suites plus a self-service cafeteria. The arts play a major role in the life of the school; music, drama and dance thrive and a wide range of performances are held regularly in the 240-seat theatre. The music department has a music technology suite, full-scale recording studio and a rehearsal studio. A wide range of sports is offered, including rugby, football, hockey, swimming, tennis, gymnastics, athletics and basketball and the school participates successfully in ISGA as well as ISST. Similarly there is a wide range of extra-curricular activities in sport, music and drama with frequent opportunities for overseas travel and school journey.
Advice on higher and further education and on a choice of career is available to all students. Throughout the year multinational careers counsellors run events and host guest speakers to guide students in making their post-graduate plans. Academic results are superb – in 2016, 100% of our IB and BTEC students passed their exams, with a 99% pass rate for A Level students. Most students leaving school go on to their first choice university.
BSB also has a very active parent support network and through “Friends of BSB” families are supported in many ways to help them settle into life in Belgium. Call us for a tour and find out why BSB is the first choice of school for 98% of families who visit us.
