IB cohort 2025

Congratulations to our Class of 2025 International Baccalaureate Diploma cohort! Students were celebrating the culmination of their two years of hard work and dedicated effort as the results of this globally renown qualification were published on Sunday 6th July.The average points score for 2025 was 35.4, a 7% increase on the average scores for 2023 and 2024 and significantly above the 2024 global average of 30.3. The 2025 statistics have yet to be published by the IB Organisation. In Art, Maths, Spanish and English A 100% of students achieved or exceeded their predicted grades. Some subject stand outs were English A Higher Level with 100% of grades at 6, English B Higher Level with 80% of grades 6-7 and Maths Standard Level with 83% grades 6-7.The School’s Director of IB, Kees Luteijn, commented, “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with such a talented and committed cohort of IB students in my first year at Leighton Park. They have achieved an outstanding set of results, significantly above the UK and global averages, which is testament to their hard work, dedication and the way that they have supported one another. The Diploma Programme has provided them a fantastic broad, holistic and academically rigorous educational foundation from which to build on, whether they are continuing with their studies in the UK or abroad. All of our students should be hugely proud, not only of their results, but also for having achieved this alongside being fully involved in the wider aspects of the School through, sport, the arts, service, co-curricular and boarding."Evie-Belle was enthusiastic about her experience on the course saying, "The past two years of IB have been challenging, however receiving my results today has been really rewarding because I know all my efforts have been worth it. I’ve always had a passion for animals, and I’d love to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. However, I'm taking a gap year first because I want to travel and experience more of the world. I've really enjoyed the IB. The opportunity to study a broad range of subjects whilst learning how to effectively manage multiple deadlines at once has helped me to become more independent and to be confident in my own abilities."The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is an internationally recognised Sixth Form qualification providing participants with access to a broader range of subjects than A Levels whilst maintaining academic rigour and taking a more holistic approach that aims to give students the skills to flourish after school and contribute to a better world. Students can choose six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, and are guaranteed breadth in their education through options across Literature, Language, Humanities, Sciences, Maths and the Arts. The maximum grade for each subject is a 7 with the additional 3 points to make up the total score out of 45 coming from the core programmes. These include Theory of Knowledge (ToK) which explores how we know what we know; Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) which is designed to promote wellbeing and build resilience through sport, art, drama, music and community service whilst giving recognition to students’ co-curricular activities; and the Extended Essay which enables students to explore their passions and produce a 4,000-word research project. 97% of University Admissions Tutors agree that the IB Diploma is the best possible preparation for a degree. The most competitive courses and many Russell Group Institutions will require 38 points from IB candidates, equivalent to A*A*A at A Level, or 37 points, equivalent to AAA, slightly lower than they would offer A Level candidates in recognition of the exceptional organisational, time management and project management skills developed  and the academic rigour offered by the IB Diploma.
