IKAN report: Aadhaar mandatory for residents of India
A unique identification number (Aadhaar) has been introduced in India is now compulsory for all Indian residents. Long term expatriates will be required to obtain the number.

Aadhaar is a 12 digit unique-identity number issued to all Indian residents based on their biometric and demographic data.

Notification for all long term expats in India
The data is collected by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), a statutory authority established on the 12th of July 2016 by the Government of India, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, through the provisions of the Aadhaar Act 2016.In July of 2017, the Indian government announced through the Finance act, 2017 that income tax returns being filed by all residents of India require a mention of their unique Aadhaar number on the tax returns form.Related stories:

Who do the new rules apply to?
