As Thailand's first British international school, Bangkok Patana School is marking its 70th anniversary in 2026/27, celebrating seven decades of educational excellence, innovation and community engagement.
Founded in 1957, Bangkok Patana has grown from a small expatriate school into one of Southeast Asia's leading international schools. Today it remains proudly not-for-profit, reinvesting every surplus baht into facilities, teaching, learning and student wellbeing. The school serves more than 2,300 students representing almost 70 nationalities, creating a vibrant and diverse learning community that reflects the international nature of modern Bangkok.
A defining characteristic of Bangkok Patana is its commitment to academic excellence without academic selection. Students are admitted regardless of prior academic attainment, with success driven by outstanding teaching, personalised support and high expectations for every learner. This philosophy has helped establish a strong reputation among families relocating to Thailand and seeking a British-style education within an inclusive environment.
Located on a spacious 17-hectare campus in Bang Na, within easy reach of central Bangkok and the city's expanding mass transit network, the school offers exceptional facilities designed to support learning, creativity and wellbeing. Purpose-built science laboratories, design and technology workshops, extensive libraries, dedicated performing arts spaces and high-quality sports facilities provide students with opportunities to explore interests both inside and beyond the classroom.
The school's commitment to sustainability and future-focused development is equally evident. In 2026, Bangkok Patana became the first school in Thailand to achieve Gold LEED certification for a building containing student learning spaces, reflecting a wider commitment to environmental responsibility. It was the first school in Thailand to invest in large-scale solar energy and fresh, filtered air in all its buildings, supporting both sustainability goals and student wellbeing.
Students follow the English National Curriculum throughout the Primary and lower Secondary years before progressing to (I)GCSEs and a choice of pathways in the Sixth Form. The school offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) and the IB Certificate pathway, enabling students to pursue routes best suited to their aspirations and strengths.
This combination of academic rigour and personalised pathways contributes to consistently strong outcomes, with graduates progressing to leading universities throughout the United Kingdom, North America, Europe, Asia and Australasia. Equally important is the school's focus on developing character, independence and global citizenship, qualities increasingly valued by both universities and employers.

Beyond the classroom, Bangkok Patana offers more than 400 extra-curricular activities, ranging from competitive sport and performing arts to robotics, environmental initiatives, community service and leadership programmes. Participation is exceptionally high, with the vast majority of students involved in activities that broaden their interests and strengthen connections within the school community.
The school's educational approach is underpinned by the values of the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile, encouraging students to become inquisitive, principled, reflective and internationally minded individuals. These principles are woven throughout daily school life, helping young people develop not only academically but also socially and emotionally.
After 70 years, Bangkok Patana School continues to evolve while remaining true to its founding purpose: providing a world-class British international education in a caring, inclusive and globally minded community. For families relocating to Thailand, it offers a combination of academic excellence, extensive opportunities and a strong sense of belonging that has defined the school for generations.
