IKAN report: Deadline extended for mandatory linking of Aadhaar

The Supreme Court of India has extended the deadline to link the biometric identification number, Aadhaar, with banking and mobile services.

The Supreme Court of India has extended the 31, March 2018 deadline for the mandatory linking of Aadhaar, in order to avail various services and welfare schemes run by the government, until its constitution bench deliver its verdict on the validity of the 12-digit biometric identification number (Aadhaar) and its enabling law.

Challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhaar

The apex court is currently hearing various petitions, challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhaar and it's enabling act, including the linking of bank accounts and mobile numbers with Aadhaar.On 15 December 2017, the apex court extended the deadline for mandatory linking of Aadhaar with various services and welfare schemes until 31 March.This may come as a relief to any resident of India who has failed to link his/her Aadhaar to their mobile number or bank account.
