Hyderabad – India's new tech hub

Since 2014, Hyderabad has established itself as India's IT hub and increasing numbers of expatriates are relocating to the region as affordable office space and residential properties see companies opening there.

In terms of urban population, Hyderabad is the fourth largest city in India. With an award winning international airport, metro train connectivity and a proactive government and leadership, there is much to attract multinationals to the city. A growing tech hub

Hyderabad is now home to some of the largest organisations in India including Indian defense companies, a geographical research centre, education centre, Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology industrial centre, and an IT/ITES hub.City growth slowed as it was separated from the main State but since 2014, growth has been rapid as it has established itself as India’s largest IT Corridor with HiTec City, Gachbowli, Bahadurpally and the Uppal area; India’s largest Biotech Park Corridor in the Shamirpet and India’s largest aerospace infrastructure for research and development in the area of Shamiret and Adibatla.

Ranked first in India for Human Resource development and with an average literacy rate of 82 per cent – well above the national literacy rate – the sleeping giant has transformed itself into an established Hub for IT &  IT Enabled Services (ITES) companies. The major thrust for growth of the IT/ ITES is towards the West of Hyderabad in the areas of Madhapur, HiTec City, Kondapur, Gachibowli & Kokapet.It is therefore no surprise that increasing numbers of expats are accepting assignments to Hyderabad.

Housing for international assignees

For Expat housing; the real estate market is complex and usually managed through agents. One may need extensive hand-holding to identify suitable housing, negotiate tenancy agreements, register the contract/ agreement in the Government offices/ courts, prepare the property for arrival and the moving process in general. Although there is sufficient supply, finding a high quality apartment of Western standards is usually a challenging exercise.Expats prefer living in areas of HiTec City (Madhapur and Kondapur), Gachibowli, Nanakramguda, Kokapet and Kukatpally. Expat housing is available as apartments & villas in gated communities.Hyderabad has reputed International school options to select from, offering both excellent academic standards as well as a wide range of extra-curricular activities for all round development. Many schools offer the IPC, IGCSE and IB. It is best to start the school admission process as early as possible in order to be able to secure a place.

Amazon and Apple invest in Hyderabad

Hyderabad is considered India's melting pot, where people from across the country, religions and cultures choose to take up assignments and jobs. With this influx of people and talent, the infrastructure is keeping pace. With Corporations like Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, State Street Bank, IKEA, Boeing and Qualcomm investing heavily into Hyderabad, need for quality, trained manpower is creating jobs which is an attraction not just for expatriates but also for Indian nationals.While the focus on the Big 100 continues, the city is also nurturing small businesses and start ups. According to a recent study, there are currently 100 SME’s setting up on the Hyderabad–Warangal Highway. With Hyderabad’s close proximity to cities like Amravati, Bengaluru & Nagpur, it is attractive to logistics and manufacturing companies who are increasingly setting up premises there.

T-hub: the start up initiative

Telangana Government has facilitated a Start Up Hub in Hyderabad – T-Hub. T-Hub is India’s largest incubator for startups and is headquartered in Hyderabad. T-Hub is a unique public/private partnership between the government of Telangana, three of India’s premier academic institutes (IIIT-H, ISB & NALSAR) and key private sector leaders.T-Hub is anchoring the entire Hyderabad startup community with a state-of-the-art 70,000 square foot building called CatalysT, the largest building in India to be entirely dedicated to entrepreneurship. Located at the IIIT-H Campus, Gachibowli, the sprawling building will bring the start-up community together.T-Hub is aiming to attract the best start-ups and entrepreneur organisations from across the world to Hyderabad.
