Bavarian International School in Munich

The Bavarian International School (BIS) is more than just a school. It is the place where students from ages 3 to 19 are prepared for the new world of tomorrow. This is where young personalities, global citizens and changemakers grow and flourish. For many students, BIS is a home away from home and a family network for life.

In a globalized world, these skills include the 4 C's of communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking as well as digital competence, a cosmopolitan mindset, innovative spirit and the principle of lifelong learning.

Academic excellence

BIS is a private, non-profit, all-day school (Kindergarten, Preschool, Primary School, and Secondary School) and is one of the best international schools in Germany and Europe. The average grades in the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB DP) are more than four points above the global average every year. The degree opens the door to the best universities all over the world including Germany (from Oxford to TUM, from Harvard to LMU).The school is defined by two other distinguishing qualities: BIS is the only IB World School in Germany offering all four programmes of the International Baccalaureate (IB PYP, IB MYP, IB DP, IB CP). In addition, as the only international school in Germany, BIS offers a scholarship programme with three awards “Believe,” “Inspire,” and “Succeed”, plus the new Dr. Chrissie Sorenson Scholarship, launching in 2026–27. BIS-Kindergarten-childrenBuilding the future of learningAs a school of the future, BIS is constantly evolving. That's why the 25 million euro Creativity & Innovation Centre (CIC) is being built to serve as the new heart of the Haimhausen Campus, scheduled for completion in winter 2026. Spread across three floors and 6,200 square meters, the centre will provide a space where 750 students and teachers learn and collaborate according to the STEAM philosophy: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths.BIS - a place for everyone to grow and flourish.Bavarian-International-School-young-children-technologyContact us: admissions@bis-school.comINSPIRE - the award-winning magazine of BIS:https://www.bis-school.com/news/publicationsVideo - the magic of learning at BIS:

Top academic quality and highly personalized education: strong IB DP results from the BIS Class of 2025

The results of the class of 2025 once again underlines Bavarian International School’s (BIS) excellent reputation as one of the leading IB World Schools, combining top academic quality with a highly personalised education in a very international environment. The largest graduating class in BIS history has achieved excellent results in the International Baccalaureate (IB): the 96 students who took the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) exams in May 2025 achieved an average score of 34.2 points, which is once again well above the global average (30.56). The pass rate is also impressive at 98% (81.2 worldwide). Two BIS students achieved the top score of 45 out of 45 points. 17% of BIS students received more than 40 points in the IB DP, which is equivalent to a 1.3 average in the German Abitur.Additional statistics:
  • 46.8% completed the bilingual diploma.
  • 43.6% achieved more than 36 points in the IB DP (Abitur 2.0).
  • 73.4% scored more than 32 points in the IB DP (Abitur 2.6).
  • 100% (8 students) graduated from the IB Career-related Programme (IB CP).
The results of our students are particularly remarkable, as BIS is non-selective!To get into a state Gymnasium in Bavaria, you need an average grade of 2.33 at the end of Primary School - this selection does not exist at BIS - philosophically cannot exist as approximately 75% of our students come from 70 nations and respectively different school systems!Furthermore, the achievements are all the more impressive because 40% of the 110 students in the cohort received some form of learning support. This underlines BIS's philosophy of providing students with a highly personalised education tailored to each individual - all in a diverse, highly international environment where everyone should feel they belong. "The increase in the need for learning support is a global trend in schools - from reading and spelling difficulties to ADHD and autism. We blame this less on the coronavirus pandemic and more on the new age of smartphones, screen time and social media, which is demonstrably changing the way young people learn and pay attention," explains Dr Chrissie Sorenson, Head of School & Executive Board of BIS.We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2025 at BIS and would also like to say a huge thank you to all the teachers, staff and, last but not least, the parents. This joint success is the living expression of our motto Believe. Inspire. Succeed. We are sure that our graduates are perfectly prepared for the future and wish them all the best for their future endeavours. You will always have a family with BIS and we are delighted to now have you as alumni in the community!BIS - a place for everyone to grow and flourish!www.bis-school.com Photos: Saleh Fallah
