Paul Williamson, Head of Talent Development, The Ambassador Theatre Group, judge of the Relocate and Think Global People Awards 2021

What was striking about this year’s entries?

"I think you could see definitely a theme around being agile and creating things quickly but mindfully. Knowing your business and knowing what you can achieve and using the talent in your organisation shows that really great things can be achieved in really short periods of time if people have the will and determination and that came through really strongly."

Alastair Hunt, Santa Fe Relocation, sponsor of the Relocate and Think Global People Awards 2021

Why is sponsoring the Relocate Awards a good thing?

"It’s recognising best practices within the industry. A lot of people work very hard behind the scenes. For a lot of businesses they don’t always get the praise they should do. So for our brand it’s great to be a part of that and it’s also a great opportunity to get our name out there too."

Where do you see the sector going?

"It is a big question. At the moment in the UK there is a huge amount of optimism. We see every day how many people have been vaccinated. We are starting to get out. Europe is slightly behind us. Asia is going into another lockdown at the moment. It’s going to be tough for the rest of this year and probably into Q2 next year. But we have to remain positive and as long as the world pulls together, we will get through. It has to be a bright future. We won’t give up."

"The last year has really highlighted in a way the value and importance of home. Making sure it’s safe, it’s comfortable and just the appreciation of it. With that in mind, you have to look at the serviced accommodation providers and the amazing work they’ve done this year to make this possible."

Why is ARP involved in the Relocate Awards?

"Relocation matters – it is a multi-billion-pound business and trying to get the government to recognise that. The government wants the world’s top talent to come to us, so why not make it easy? If we get that right we can tell the world what we want to do. This is really interesting which is why we are working with Relocate. We are working with MPs. We have an all-party parliamentary group set up and MPs are debating relocation. That’s never happened before but it’s happening right now. Where it goes is hard to say. But that’s why we are keen to get back to talk to Relocate because you have the ability to reach a wider audience."

What are your thoughts about Relocate Global as a resource hub?

"It’s a really good idea. The interesting thing about thought leadership is that it doesn’t have to be the top tier in companies. It just has to be somebody who has a really good thought. Ideas can come from anywhere; large and small companies. So I think it’s an extremely good idea."
