Students at Queen Anne’s School, Caversham are celebrating another superb set of GCSE results, building on the school’s nationally recognised record for exceptional student progress.
Following a phenomenal set of results in 2025, the Class of 2026 has maintained a high standard of academic achievement. This year, 29% of all GCSE grades were awarded at the highest Grade 9, with 47% at Grades 9–8 and 68% at Grades 9-7.
This strong performance was reflected across the whole cohort. Of the Upper Five students who took more than five GCSEs 100% achieved at least five grades at 9-4, including English and Mathematics.
Among those celebrating this year is Olufunmi who achieved an exceptional clean sweep of Grade 9s across all her GCSE subjects.
Her achievements extend well beyond the classroom. A keen sportswoman, Olufunmi has represented Queen Anne’s in both lacrosse and netball, while music has also played a significant part in her school life. An accomplished viola player and singer, she is a member of Sinfonia, Consort Choir and the Chamber Choir. She will now study Psychology, Chemistry, Biology and French at A Level, with ambitions to pursue a career in medicine.
She said:
“The last two years have been a lot of hard work, I’m so happy to get the grades I was hoping for. All the hours of revision, my brother helping me with History - it has all paid off. After all the anticipation, I’m just so relieved and really, really happy with these results.”
There was further outstanding success for Abi, who also achieved Grade 9s in every one of her GCSE subjects.
An Academic Scholar who has been part of the Queen Anne’s community since Lower Four, Abi has consistently demonstrated an exemplary commitment to her studies and intellectual curiosity. She will now continue with Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology at A Level.
She said:
‘I’m really happy with my results – they’re better than I could ever have imagined!”
Also celebrating an impressive set of results is Flo, who achieved seven Grade 9s and two Grade 8s.
Alongside her academic success, Flo is an accomplished musician, excelling as a cellist, pianist, singer and guitarist in and outside school. Beyond Queen Anne’s, she sings with the highly regarded Taplow Choir, reflecting the breadth of her musical talent and commitment.
She said:
“I’m really happy! It was definitely worth the wait to see all of my hard work pay off!”
English was once again a particular standout subject; as the best-performing English department in the country for student progress, the results continue an outstanding period for English at Queen Anne’s.
An exceptional 97% of English Literature grades were awarded at Grades 9–7, alongside 88% of English Language grades at Grades 9–7.
Anna Spellman, Head of English said:
“Our English results have been excellent for a number of years, but this year really feels like the pinnacle of that journey. In English Literature, 91% of students achieved Grades 8 or 9, while in English Language 67% achieved Grades 8 or 9 - a five-year high for the department. I’m incredibly proud of our students and of the dedicated, committed team of skilled teachers who have supported them. Our English Language-only class also performed exceptionally well, and I’d particularly like to thank Mr North for all his hard work with those students. It’s wonderful to see their effort and commitment reflected in such fantastic results.”
Strong performance was also seen across the wider curriculum. Mathematics achieved a 100% pass rate, with 61% of grades awarded at Grades 9–7.
Geography also celebrated an excellent set of results, with 85% of grades awarded at Grades 9–7 and every student achieving at least a Grade 5.
There was further success in Art, where 94% of grades were awarded at Grades 9–7 and every student achieved Grade 6 or above. The GCSE results continue an exceptional week for the Art Department, following 100% A* achievement at A Level last week.
For many of the students celebrating today, GCSE Results Day also marks the beginning of the next stage of their Queen Anne’s journey as they prepare to join the Sixth Form and begin their A Level studies in September.
Head of School, Ms Elaine Purves, said:
“GCSEs are an important milestone, and today we are celebrating a year group who have approached these two years with real purpose. What stands out is not only the strength of achievement across the cohort, but the progress our girls have made. At Queen Anne’s, success is never about expecting every student to fit the same mould; it is about knowing each girl, recognising where her strengths lie and giving her the support she needs. These results are a wonderful foundation for what comes next, and I look forward to seeing where their ambitions take them as they continue to grow into confident, capable and determined young women, ready to make their mark.”
Queen Anne’s School is an inspirational independent day and boarding school for girls aged 11–18 in Caversham, Reading, combining academic ambition with outstanding pastoral care and a broad co-curricular programme.
