In February, George Westwell, CEO of Cheval Collection, welcomed guests to the re-opening of Cheval Gloucester Park after an extensive two-year renovation project. Originally built in 1991 with four towers, the building has been stripped back to its shell and core. And what a transformation. The ground floor features a striking, herringbone design, marble floor and a chic welcome. There are 98 beautifully appointed apartments, including three five-bedroom, 232m penthouses with expansive views over Kensington and towards the city.

A nod to the twenties

The design team from 1508 have taken their inspiration from 1920s London, but this is very contemporary living with 10-gigabyte WiFi bearer in the building providing 10-gigabyte download and upload, to allow personal streaming and fast response to business needs. Shared spaces to admire

What makes the Cheval Residences extra special and somewhere to feel at home, whether for a few days or a few months, are the intimate spaces to relax in downstairs. Stunning original artwork has been commissioned to welcome guests and sets the tone of their stay. Some are playful pieces like the Peter Pan book works by Lucy Claw inspired by the author J. M. Barrie and his connection with the area. Elisabeth Lecourt’s Tube Map transforms a dress bearing the iconic map – surely a conversation piece for international travellers. It is not surprising that horses feature strongly in Cheval’s commissions.Spring Issue 2020 out nowPhotographer Astrid Harrisson lived in Argentina, “Camera in one hand, reins in the other. It was high amongst the sierras that I found serendipity: freedom, nature and horses", she says. Sophie Derrick’s Negate & Gild uses both painting and photography, and is a stunning centrepiece to welcome guests. Other international artists represented include Christopher Wilcox, Heidi Lanino, Lisa Krannichfield and Diego Capella. There are also prints of the artwork in the apartments themselves.
